Someone Needs to Hear This

As we close out 2023, I’ve been thinking about the items that matter to me. Perfection isn’t one of them. Most coffee I drink is good enough, some are spectacular in the moment. There is no such thing as a perfect night of sleep and if there is, I’ve never had it. Some nights are just longer than others, and sleep better than others, but not perfect. Perfect weather? Nope. There isn’t even perfect clothes for that weather, some are good enough. A rain jacket can work as a running jacket in a pinch. The ability to adjust and adapt also isn’t perfect, but it can save the day, the dinner, the run, the coffee and Instagram. I see so many profiles that post beautiful dinners, dresses, family gatherings, vacations and there is no space in the curated space for an imperfect photo. Well, I am here to tell you that I love your imperfect photos of you living your life. Today I ran on the river trail during a little rain trickle and talked with a friend I haven’t seen in person in four years. I am not wearing makeup (when do I ever?), the running top is the same one I ran in yesterday, the playlist the same from yesterday as well. But the trail, not the same as yesterday or last year or 10 years ago but I have been on this trail a 100 times. I am also not the same. I won’t be the same tomorrow either. So, I am posting this moment because my heart was happy and that for me is a memory I’d like to put down right here for me to see in 6 months and maybe again in 6 years. Because if I didn’t post anything but the perfect pictures of the perfect moments, my Instagram would be empty. Don’t wait for a perfect moment with a perfect photo to post. Celebrate today or tomorrow for what it is.
